How to get your stuff seen on Facebook.
Have you seen the news from Facebook Newsroom about engagement bait?
Starting this week, Facebook are going to begin demoting posts that use engagement bait because "People have told us that they dislike spammy posts on Facebook..."
Now this isn't news to lots of us, it's been in the pipeline for some time but I'm quite sure reading about it will upset a lot of people. Especially small businesses because changes like this are often just seen as being another hurdle but - I challenge you to see this as the opportunity it is.
What I have seen.
When I think of authenticity, two clients / come friends in business spring to mind.
One epitomises authenticity. Her followers are genuine, they're interested in what she has to say and you can tell that what she says in her post is truly her. People want to hear from her and she's really building herself a community of like minded people.
The other has built the type of page and followers that Facebook is trying to crack down on. Her attempts to engage are genuine for sure and her page numbers are high but look legit for our market but her community engagement is done through bots half the time, her posts are spammy, often competition based, and she engages in group activities to give the impression of a high engagement.
Where’s the opportunity?
I challenge you, to think outside the box and be authentic. It isn't just a buzz word anymore, it really needs to be part of your strategy and these changes give us an opportunity to be bold. Find your voice. Stand out. And be you.
How can you be authentic?
I was recently at a Getty Images conference and they shared about what people are wanting to see and what images are stopping people in their tracks.
You can be authentic in your posts by planning out content and themes but being candid, personable and including images that are real, down to earth and spontaneous about it. Having a library of branded images ready to go, helps too so you already know what you want to say.
